Artist statement
We’re Edy & Paige, the husband-and-wife team behind Whiskey Oaks Handmade—with occasional supervision from Vinny, our tiny shop boss who specializes in inspecting everything, moving things he shouldn’t, and keeping productivity at a reasonable minimum.
We create one-of-a-kind wood art using carefully selected hardwoods and exotic species chosen for their natural color, grain, and character. Our process involves cutting, shaping, layering, carving, gluing, grinding, sanding…and then sanding again because apparently we enjoy suffering.
We let the wood do most of the showing off. No painted-on grain and no trying to make every piece identical. The natural colors, knots, grain patterns, and imperfections help determine what each piece becomes—which also gives us a very convenient excuse when the wood has other plans.
Every piece is designed and built by us, one at a time, in our shop. There’s no factory, no assembly line, and definitely no clean clothes by the end of the day.
